How to rename file extension name on windows XP

There is many way to rename your file extension (*.XXX) name. Sometimes you can need to rename your file extension name. When required to remand your file extension name, your windows XP (default) does not show the Extension and does not allow renaming your file extension name. There are many way to show File extension name.

Method 1: This method is very easy and so short. You can follow this method for quick perform show extension name operation.

Step1: go to

Start> My Computer

Then you go to menu bar and then click Tools next you click Folder Options… a small window appear in your screen then you click view menu bar on your view sub window.

Start> My Computer> Tools (on the menu bar) >Folder options… > view

Step2: You deselect Hide extension for known file types check box. Then you click Apply and OK to save your changes.

If you do not find folder option menu then you follow the second method.

Method2: go to

Start> Control panel

Then switch your control panel as classic views, then you click the Folder Option icon to open folder option window. You deselect Hide extension for known file types check box. Then you click Apply and OK to save your changes.

Now you open the containing folder where your file was present. Right click on this file and rename it.

Note: If you enter a wrong extension name then sometimes your file does not work properly. If any problem occurs while you rename your files then you check the following parameter.

· Read only file system.

· File permission.

· File accesses by other program.

· Same name of file already exist on this directory.
